What are the conditions to open a Nickel account?

Nickel is open to everyone from 12 years old, in 5 minutes. People with banking bans are welcome. Find out how to open your account here.
It is now possible for international customers to open a Nickel account, with over 190 passports accepted. Check out the list of countries here.

To open your account, you must :

  • Be a natural person (no company),
  • Be of legal age and legally capable (people under guardianship or curatorship cannot open a Nickel account) or from the age of 12 accompanied by a legal representative (the latter is not obliged to be a Nickel customer). Minors born outside the European Union cannot subscribe to the youth offer.
  • Be a tax resident of at least one country in the European Union and EFTA*.
  • Have a mailing address in Belgium,
  • Have a valid mobile number and e-mail address (optional for the minor, mandatory for the parent/legal guardian) if the legal guardian does not have a Nickel account
 
To open your account, you need :
💡If the minor has the same phone number as their legal representative, the code received by text message will be that of the legal representative and not the minor. So theminor will never be able to get his or her card PIN.
  • Have € 20 in cash or credit card to buy your Nickel box.
  • Foreign students can open a Nickel account provided that the mention "authorize its holder to work" is mentioned on the residence permit.
*The opening of an account is not possible for US citizens and residents or in case of birth in the US. You must be able to provide a certificate of loss of citizenship or other proof of non-obtainment of citizenship.
Accepted documents are :
  • French national identity card, with MRZ band or European identity card.
  • French passport or equivalent document from a European Union* or EFTA country (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland),
  • More than 190 passports are accepted: see the list
  • Residence permit issued by a French authority: residence permit or resident card
  • For minors, the representative must have a family record book

Conditions of acceptability of the documents provided

  • The identity document must be in good condition, legible and must not be truncated. If this is the case, we will be forced to block your account until we receive a new ID
  • A driver's license is not accepted.

 

Case of expired coins :
  • Only French national identity cards, issued on or after 2 January 2004 can be extended by 5 years (provided the holder is of age when the document is issued). All other outdated parts are not accepted.
